What can we do?
At Summit Abilities we ensure that every service we provide aligns with your goals. We believe community participation is essential for an improved quality of life.
Summit Abilities offer a wide range of activities to engage with our participants and increase their inclusion in the wider community.
Our services are delivered throughout the week giving you the flexibility you deserve.
The services included but not limited to:
- Arts and Crafts
- Bowling
- Golf
- Gym memberships
- Cooking Classes
- Lawn Bowls
- Bingo
- Musicals
- Swimming
- Music Therapy
- Animal Therapy
- Day trips to Sydney for events
- Sporting Events
- Capacity building programs like painting/pottery making/candle making.
- Or a trip to the movies or gallery
- BBQ Days
- Bike Riding
- Sports Coaching Clinics (Soccer, Basketball, Cricket, Rugby League and Tennis)
- Karaoke nights
- Field Days (Excursions – Reptile Park, Newcastle Show, Disney on Ice, Mt Tomaree, Hunter Valley Lights)
- Visiting your local library
- Building skills, taking up a new interest or learning new things
- Volunteering
What you can pay for with Social and Community Participation funding.
Social and Community Participation funding is most likely to cover costs associated with getting to and participating in activities rather than the costs of the activities themselves.
For example, you might want to attend your local community centre to learn a craft-based activity like candle making.
You may be able to use your Social and Community Participation funding to pay for a support worker to:
- Transport you to and from the activity
- Attend with you
- Help you get the most out of the class such as providing communication support or assistance with completing activities
- Support with using the bathroom, eating or other personal care requirements while you are out and about.
The worker’s time can be claimed at the agreed hourly rate for both transport time and time spent accompanying you during the activity.
What group activities do you do?
If you’re 18 years of age and older, our Adult Social Clubs are the social club for you! Adult Social is focused on friendship, fun, and regular community activities that are chosen by members. It’s all about getting out and about in the community and may include outings like concerts, mini-golf, going to a local pub, go-karting, or playing pool.
If you’re 17 years of age and under, come and check out the Youth Social and connect with people your age, learn new skills, and have lots of fun! Enjoy community activities like going to the movies, concerts, karaoke, twilight markets, fish and chips on the beach, and much more.
Summit Abilities acknowledges the Awabakal and Worimi people as the traditional custodians of the land on which Summit Abilities is situated.
We pay respects to the Elders, past, present and future, and recognise the continuing connection and contribution to this land.
